Anatomy of Back Muscles

The muscles of the back can be divided into three groups – superficial, intermediate and deep: Superficial  – associated with movements of the shoulder. Intermediate  – associated with movements of the thoracic cage. Deep  – associated with movements of the vertebral column. The deep muscles develop embryologically in the back, and are thus described as  intrinsic  muscles. The superficial and intermediate muscles do not develop in the back, and are classified as  extrinsic  muscles. This article is about the anatomy of the superficial back muscles – their attachments, innervations and functions. The superficial back muscles are situated underneath the skin and superficial fascia. They originate from the vertebral column and attach to the bones of the shoulder – the clavicle, scapula and humerus. All these muscles are therefore associated with movements of the upper limb. The muscles in this group are the trapezius, latissimus dorsi, levator scapulae and the rhomboids. The trapezius

Neurobic exercises

Neurobic exercises is the name of the new science of brain exercise. Its primary goal is to help us keep our mental abilities... our memory as well as learning new information. Neurobics is different from the brain exercises you did in the past which were usually logic based puzzles such as crossword puzzles and Sudoku. This type of exercise basically involved doing what you already know, but just doing more of it. It is not that they are of no value but their value is limited because they usually only involve a small amount of your brain and you are also just using the same brain neurons (the name for brain cells). What is Neurobics? Neurobic exercises is a unique new system of brain exercises based on the latest scientific research from leading neurobiology labs around the world. The deceptively simple exercise program is scientifically based on the brain's ability to produce natural growth factors called neurotrophins that help fight off the effects of mental aging.

PAIN GATE THEORY

The  PAIN GATE THEORY  or  GATE CONTROL THEORY OF PAIN , put forward by  Ron Melzack  and  Patrick Wall  in  1965 , is the idea that physical pain is not a direct result of activation of pain receptor neurons, but rather its perception is modulated by interaction between different neurons. They suggested that there is a "gating system" in the central nervous system that opens and closes to let pain messages through to the brain or to block them. Pain gate theory is often used to explain phantom or chronic pain. Pain: Gate control theory of pain is an attempt to discuss about how pain sensation is transmitted. Pain is defined as the subjective sensation which accompany the activation of nociceptors and which signals the location and strength of actual or potential tissue damaging stimuli. Various types of pain may range from  mild irritation, through burning and prickling sensation to more intense stabbing and throbbing sensation and finally to agonizing and int

Double chin Exercises

Double chin A double chin, also known as submental fat, is a common condition that occurs when a layer of fat forms below your chin. A double chin is often associated with weight gain, but you don’t have to be overweight to have one. Genetics or looser skin resulting from aging may also cause a double chin. While many people suffer from  DOUBLE CHIN  problem, mostly people don't know the reason for their problem. A double chin appears when fat deposits accumulate in the platysma muscle area, causing the chin region to sag.  Aging  can also cause double chins, since the skin is no longer as tight as it used to be, thus causing what is colloquially called  turkey neck . In either circumstances, the bands of the platysma muscle can become thick and cord-like, eventually causing these to tent the  skin  of the neck area and dangle between the jawbone and the collarbone. Whether the double chin is caused by aging or unnecessary neck fat, exercise may help reduce the amount o

Femoral neck fracture physiotherapy

Post femoral neck fracture physiotherapy aims to improve strength and range of motion of the involved extremity. Establish independent gait without assistive device and minimize complication

Physiotherapy For Urine Incontinence

One of the most common treatment  recommendations for urinary incontinence  includes exercising the muscles of the  pelvis . These exercises  strengthens  pelvic floor muscles and sphincter muscles to reduce stress leakage. Patients younger than 60 years old benefit the most. The patient should do at least 24 daily contractions for at least 6 weeks. It is possible to assess pelvic floor muscle strength using a Kegel perineometer Increasingly there is evidence of the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle exercise (PFME) to improve bladder control. For example, urinary incontinence following  childbirth  can be improved by performing incontinence exercises. Begin incontinence exercises with empty bladder. Start with gravity assisted positioning(hips higher than the heart such as supported bridge or elbows/knees position) CONTRACT-RELAX TECHNIQUE:  Instruct to tighten the pelvic floor muscles as if attempting to stop urine flow or hold back gas. Hold for 3 to 5 seconds and relax
